Properties and applications: Chemical compound,a colorless-to-gray, rhombohedral crystalline substance that occurs in nature as the mineral mascagnite. It is soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol or liquid ammonia. It is prepared commercially by passing ammonia, obtained from destructive distillation of coal, into sulfuric acid and is used as a fertilizer, in preparing other ammonium compounds, and for fireproofing.
Use: Used as materials for producing hydrogen peroxide, ammonia alum and ammonium chloride in chemical industry; flux in jointing industry; fireproof agent in textile industry; additive of plating bath in plating industry; nitrogenous in agricultural industry. Applicable to common soil and crops. Food-grade products are used as dough regulators and yeast nutrition.
